طی سالهای اخیر در رابطه با ساز کهن تنبور کتابی با عنوان “زمینه شناخت تنبور” تالیف استاد حیدر کاکی منتشر گردید که بطور تخصصی به بخشهای مختلف این ساز همچون تاریخچه ساز، انواع تنبور، مشخصات ظاهری و موسیقائی، سازندگان و نوازندگان مطرح و همچنین مقامهای تنبور پرداخته است.
پیشتر نیز کتابهای ارزشمندی همچون “تنبور از دیرباز تا کنون” تالیف زنده یاد سید خلیل عالی نژاد و همچنین “موسیقی وعرفان” نوشته پرفسور ژان دورینگ و… منتشر گردیده است که در زمینه معرفی این ساز کهن تاثیر گذار بوده اند.
